John W.

John W. "Jack" Gnann, 85, died Thursday, July 03, 2008 in Savannah.

Mr. Gnann, a native of Savannah was born on May 3, 1923, the son of the late Byron E. and Verdie Gnann. Jack was a Combat Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Europe from 1944-1945. After his military tenure, he completed his formal education at the University of Georgia in 1948. Jack was employed by Union Camp Corp. for over 25 years, working as a Forester in the Woodlands Division. He was an active member and Past President of the Georgia Salzburger Society, an active member of the Savannah Exchange Club and a longtime member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gnann was preceded in death by his brother, B.E. Gnann; sister, Helen Gnann Hearn and grandson, Michael P. Gnann. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Patrick Gnann; sons and daughters-in-law, John W. and Helen C. Gnann, Jr. of Birmingham, AL and Patrick B. and Lisa S. Gnann of Savannah; daughter, Janet B. Gnann of Savannah; grandchildren, Jennifer B. Gnann of Mooresville, NC, Andrew J. and Matthew T. Gnann, both of Birmingham, AL, Lindsay E. and S. Lake Gnann, both of Savannah.

Visitation: 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Saturday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial following at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

Remembrances: St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 W. 31st Street, Savannah, GA 31401.
